Non-Profits
In April of 2015, I had the priviledge to attend NATCOM-2015 (The National Council Conference) in Orlando, Florida. NATCOM is the nation’s premier specialty health care conference, attended by executives, board members and staff from the nation’s community mental health and addiction treatment organizations. Each year this event features the latest innovations, science and business and clinical best practices.
During this event, I enjoyed hearing from General Colin Powell on Leadership, and from Ashley Judd on her heart-felt personal journey in favor of helping the vulnerable and the underrepresented. I enjoyed running into friends old and new from several Michigan based non-profit organizations, and I also enjoyed learning more about the latest thought leadership in this important industry.
One of the quotes I enjoyed hearing came not from a convention speaker, but from a Michigan based non-profit CEO while we were waiting for General Colin Powell to speak. The CEO's comment was: "We need to manage for both mission and margin". In other words, non-profits are challenged with the ongoing balancing act of making certain that they remain financially viable, thereby allowing them to continue to dedicate themselves to their mission -- to continue to deliver quality services to their respective communities.
My goal, therefore, is to assist non-profit organiztions to reduce group benefit expenses. To the extent I can help an organization to free up revenue by reducing expenses, then those same dollars can be redeployed in favor of the group's mission.
I have had the good fortune to be a partner of non-profit organizations for the last 27 years, and I look forward to serving this industry and others throughout the balance of my career.
I appreciate the opportunity to be a small part of such an important sector of our communities.
